Brazil-Northern Pantanal

Brazil - Northern Pantanal NEW TOUR: The Great Brazilian Road-trip

An oceolot

There is a lot of opportunity to see wildlife.

On this tour we travel the entire length of the Transpantaniera, the only access road to the Northern Pantanal. The Transpantaniera is only 145 km long, but it crosses more than 100 wooden bridges, taking us into one of the most remote and wildlife-rich areas of the world. The region is one of the best places in the world to see Jaguar. Mainly nocturnal, this elusive predator can sometimes be seen during the day when we explore by boat along isolated rivers and streams. Other mammals that we are likely to see on our boat trips are Giant Otter, Neotropical River Otter, Marsh Deer, Black and Gold Howler Monkey and the ubiquitous Capybara. On the road and at lodges we expect to see Giant Anteater, Yellow Armadillo, Brown Capuchin Monkey, Pantanal Marmoset, White-lipped and Collared Peccaries, Crab-eating Fox, Crab-eating Raccoon, and Gray Brocket Deer. We have a very good chance of seeing Ocelot and Brazilian Tapir, two endangered species, during night drives. We will see numerous water birds, raptors, macaws and many other parrot species. This is a prime area for wildlife photography.
After nine days traversing the Transpantaniera, we head to Chapada dos Guimaraes, a beautiful park in the foothills outside Cuiaba. The Cerrado habitat here is entirely different from the Pantanal, and it is a very rich area for birds. The scenery, with red-rock outcrops and spectacular waterfalls, provides a strong contrast to the flat lands of the Pantanal. Join me on an amazing Brazilian road trip with outstanding wildlife views and photographic opportunities.
